Tsunami debris shows up on Tofino shores
Debris of Japanese origin has been showing up on Tofino’s shores. Many are wondering if these items were swept out to sea by the tsunami in Japan.
While it’s normal to find occasional items of Japanese origin on the shores of Tofino, Mayor Perry Schmunk said what they have found since early December has been “significantly more” than normal.
“In or around Dec. 5th the first item or two of some consequence was found,” said Schmunk. “Some lumber came ashore that had Japanese export stamps on it.”
“There has been speculation as to whether it is or isn’t tsunami debris” he said.
What looks like rubbish could be memories or heirlooms from Japans great Tsunamiā please handle with care if found and look.
